Nothing But Recruitment is currently recruiting for Senior Support Workers to join a leading organisation within the children’s residential care sector, supporting children and young people across services in Bideford, Barnstaple and Great Torrington.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced children’s residential care professional who is looking to take on greater responsibility, develop their leadership skills and make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

The Role

As a Senior Support Worker, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the home, providing high-quality care and acting as a senior member of the team during shifts.

You will help create a safe, stable and supportive environment where children and young people can develop, build positive relationships and achieve their individual goals.

This is a hands-on leadership role and would suit someone who is confident taking responsibility during shifts and supporting other members of the care team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead shifts and support the smooth day-to-day running of the home.
• Organise staff and delegate responsibilities during shifts.
• Ensure children’s individual care plans, routines and needs are followed.
• Act as the senior member of staff on shift when required.
• Respond appropriately to incidents and escalate concerns where necessary.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
• Promote the welfare, development and independence of the children in your care.
• Provide guidance and support to less experienced members of the team.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
• Work professionally with families, carers, social workers and other external professionals.
• Support children’s healthcare, education and social development.
• Take part in activities, outings and day-to-day experiences that create a positive home environment.
• Complete relevant administrative duties.
• Follow safeguarding policies, procedures and regulatory requirements at all times.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience working within residential childcare with children and young people.
• Experience working in a senior or supervisory capacity, or the ability and ambition to progress into a senior role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The confidence to lead a shift and support colleagues.
• The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
• A genuine commitment to safeguarding and improving outcomes for children and young people.
• A caring, patient and positive approach.
• Flexibility to work as part of a rota, including weekends and bank holidays.
