Team Leader – Residential Children’s Home (Education Setting) Full-time
About the Service
We are recruiting on behalf of a 6-bed residential children’s home with on-site education provision based in Handsworth, Birmingham.
The service supports children and young people with a range of complex needs, delivering a structured model that combines residential care and education within one setting.
The focus is on stability, routine, and consistent support, helping young people to re-engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and build positive life skills within a safe and structured environment.
This is a more complex setting where teamwork, consistency, and strong shift leadership are essential to maintaining high standards across the service.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Team Leader to support the management team in leading shifts and ensuring high-quality care is consistently delivered across the home.
You will take a key leadership role on shift, guiding staff practice, supporting young people, and ensuring safeguarding and compliance standards are maintained at all times.
This is a hands-on position where you will be closely involved in both operational delivery and direct care.
Key Responsibilities
Lead shifts and provide clear direction to the residential care team
Support the delivery of care plans and structured daily routines
Promote consistency between care and education within the service
Ensure safeguarding and child protection standards are maintained
Supervise, support, and mentor staff on shift
Maintain accurate records including logs, reports, and incident documentation
Support positive behaviour management in line with care plans
Work collaboratively with education staff and external professionals
Contribute to a stable, structured, and nurturing environment for young people
About You
NVQ Level 3 / Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
Experience within a children’s residential care setting
Previous experience in a senior support or team leader role (preferred)
Experience working in larger or education-linked homes (desirable)
Strong understanding of safeguarding and Ofsted requirements
Confident in leading shifts and supporting staff practice
Strong communication and organisational skills
Resilient, consistent, and able to work under pressure
Passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people
