Senior Laboratory Analyst (Toxicology)

Location: Near Bicester, Oxfordshire
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
(One weekend day worked every 3 weeks, with the following Monday off)

The Opportunity

We’re recruiting a Senior Laboratory Analyst to join a modern, technology-led toxicology laboratory specialising in workplace drug and alcohol testing. This is a small, close-knit team where quality, flexibility, and collaboration genuinely matter.

You’ll be working with state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS systems, producing accurate, right-first-time results in a fast-paced, regulated environment. This role offers strong exposure to laboratory operations, quality systems, and continuous improvement, making it ideal for someone looking to step up or broaden their technical impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Sample preparation (including solid-phase extraction) and analysis of drugs and alcohol using LC-MS/MS
• Review analytical data and ensure results meet defined quality standards
• Maintain accurate laboratory documentation (instrument logs, maintenance records, QC data)
• Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, SOPs, and health & safety requirements
• Support validation and verification of new or improved analytical methods
• Monitor stock levels and consumables to ensure uninterrupted lab operations
• Identify, escalate, and assist with resolution of deviations, non-conformances, or instrument issues
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised laboratory environment
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and turnaround times

About You

• BSc (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Analytical Science, or a related discipline
• Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited or similarly regulated laboratory
• Solid understanding of UKAS quality requirements
• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail with a practical, analytical mindset
• Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a dynamic environment
