Healthcare Assistant – Mental Health NEW
Location: Wellington, Somerset
Role Type: Temporary / Ad Hoc Shifts
Pay Rate: £12.71 – £13.21 per hour (PAYE)
Shift Pattern: Flexible shifts available, including days, nights, and weekends
We are recruiting experienced and compassionate Healthcare Assistants to work within a specialist mental health hospital setting in Wellington, Somerset.
This is an excellent opportunity for Healthcare Assistants looking for flexible temporary work, additional shifts, or the ability to choose shifts around their availability while supporting adults with a range of mental health needs.
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a key role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, helping them through their recovery journey while promoting dignity, independence, and wellbeing.
You will be working as part of a dedicated team within a secure and supportive environment, assisting service users and helping to create a safe, positive, and therapeutic atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing compassionate, person-centred support to individuals with mental health needs
- Supporting service users with their daily routines, including personal care where required
- Building positive relationships and providing emotional support
- Observing and reporting changes in behaviour, presentation, or wellbeing
- Supporting with risk management and maintaining a safe environment
- Assisting during ward routines and working alongside the wider care team
- Completing accurate care notes and documentation
- Promoting dignity, respect, and recovery-focused care at all times
Essential Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within mental health, psychiatric, hospital, or care settings
- Valid PMVA training certificate
- DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service
- Up-to-date mandatory training certificates
- Understanding of safeguarding and mental health support
- Ability to remain calm, resilient, and professional in challenging situations
- Strong communication skills and a caring approach
- Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including nights and weekends
