Role Overview
We are seeking an Assistant HR Business Partner to provide HR support to the HR Operations team. The role involves advising and guiding managers and staff on HR policies, employment terms, and related issues, ensuring effective people management aligned with organisational objectives.
The role holder will build and maintain effective working relationships with managers, empowering them to handle people issues such as disciplinary, grievance, attendance, and performance matters.
Key Responsibilities
Provide HR advice and guidance in consultation with HR Business Partners
Support, coach, and challenge managers on HR issues, including disciplinary and grievance cases
Liaise with trade union representatives as required
Screen vacancies, identify redeployment opportunities, and assist in matching staff to suitable roles
Undertake job evaluations using benchmarking data
Maintain accurate HR records and provide insight from people data (e.g., sickness, grievance numbers)
Contribute to HR policy development and projects
Prepare briefing papers and support HRBP in strategic and operational HR activities
Maintain professional development and stay up to date with HR policies, procedures, and employment law
Attend meetings, working groups, and participate in HR initiatives as required
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications:
CIPD qualified, or working towards it, with experience in a complex organisation
Experience & Knowledge:
Casework management experience including disciplinary, grievance, attendance, wellbeing, conduct, and performance issues
Up-to-date knowledge of employment law and HR processes
Experience providing HR advice to Senior Managers on complex HR matters
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to interpret HR, financial, and performance data to inform decisions
Experience implementing HR policy and leading change initiatives
Awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion implications in HR practice
Skills & Competencies:
Ability to influence, challenge, and build effective relationships at all levels
Strong organisational and time management skills
Capable of making informed decisions and delivering practical HR solutions
Confident in providing constructive feedback and coaching colleagues
Special Requirements
Attendance at office premises 2 days per week is essential
Occasional attendance on site for meetings as required
